Collaborating with Curtis and Lucas has provided us with valuable insights into supporting young individuals as they progress from mentees to volunteers and eventually to paid staff. Their development has inspired both the staff and students at TRACKS and has guided us in creating new pathways to meaningful employment. A crucial understanding we have gained is that the transition to mentorship is unique for each person—some may require more time to feel comfortable taking on responsibilities. We've realised the importance of discussing who they wish to involve in their journey and offering them the space to explore what mentorship means to them. Encouraging young people to prioritise their creativity while recognising the need for support has been vital. We understand that some may need more time to shadow and observe before fully stepping into a leadership role, and that’s perfectly fine. By allowing flexibility and creating a supportive environment, we can empower young people to grow at their own pace while building confidence in their abilities.
